Diabetes is a disorder that occurs when your body doesn’t make or use the hormone insulin properly. It causes too much blood glucose (sugar) to build up in the blood. There are two main types of diabetes. Type 1 diabetes occurs when your body doesn’t produce any insulin. It’s sometimes called juvenile diabetes because it’s usually discovered in children and teenagers, but it may appear in adults, too. Type 2 diabetes occurs when your body doesn’t produce enough insulin or doesn’t use the insulin as it should. The single most important thing you can do is control your blood sugar level. You can do this by eating right, exercising, maintaining a healthy weight, and, if needed, taking oral medicines or insulin.
High blood pressure (hypertension) is defined as high pressure (tension) in the arteries, which are the vessels that carry blood from the heart to the rest of the body. Normal blood pressure is below 120/80. Complications of high blood pressure include heart disease, kidney (renal) disease, hardening of the arteries (atherosclerosis or arteriosclerosis), eye damage, and stroke (brain damage). Blood pressure is caused by many different factors, so there are many different treatments. The goal of treating high blood pressure is to keep the blood pressure below 134/80. Treatments for high blood pressure include lifestyle modifications (quit smoking, avoid alcohol, eat low sodium and low fat diet food etc) and medications (beta blockers, ACE inhibitors, calcium channel blockers etc)
Malaria is a serious and sometimes fatal disease caused by a parasite that commonly infects a certain type of mosquito which feeds on humans. People who get malaria are typically very sick with high fevers, shaking chills, and flu-like illness. Four kinds of malaria parasites infect humans: Plasmodium falciparum, P. vivax, P. ovale, and P. malariae. Symptoms of malaria include fever and flu-like illness, including shaking chills, headache, muscle aches, and tiredness. Nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea may also occur. Malaria can be cured with prescription drugs. The type of drugs and length of treatment depend on the type of malaria, where the person was infected, their age, whether they are pregnant, and how sick they are at the start of treatment.
Gastro esophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a long-term condition where acid from the stomach comes up into the esophagus and causes acid sensation also known as acid regurgitation. Acid reflux can cause an uncomfortable burning feeling in your chest, which can radiate up toward your neck. This feeling is often known as heartburn. Acid reflux occurs when your LES (lower esophageal sphincter) doesn’t tighten or close properly. This allows digestive juices and other contents from your stomach to rise up into your esophagus. To prevent and relieve symptoms of GERD, your doctor might encourage you to make changes to your eating habits or other behaviors. They might also suggest taking over-the-counter medications, like antacids, H2 receptor blockers, proton pump inhibitors (PPIs).
